Japanese Visitor to District 1North
By Loraine Lopardo DSO-PA 1NR

At the end of July, I received a request from WorldBoston, a non-profit organization, which describes itself as, "a catalyst for global engagement that offers cultural Japanese visitors tour the USCGC Eagle in Salem, MA.perspectives and promotes international thinking in individuals and organizations.  WorldBoston provides a staging ground for issues-focused forums, one-on-one dialog, networking, and personal and professional growth for residents, businesses and institutions of Greater Boston and around the globe."

The request from Worldboston was to meet with Ms. Hiromi Konishi an international visitor from japan, sponsored by the US State Department.  Accompanying Ms. Konishi was State Department Interpreter, Mr. Takeshi Iida.  They were interested in learning how voluntary organizations contribute to the quality of American life and how our organization handles crisis management.  Shown in the picture are from left to right: COMO Carolyn Belmore; Mike Merletti, FL97; Hiromi Konishi, Kobe Shimbun Newspaper; Takeshi Iida, US State Department Interpreter; COMO H. Edward Mackenzie, DCO 1NR.

Members of Division 9 Learn CPR and AED skills

An expert Red Cross instructor helped us through every step.United States Coast Guard Auxiliary members take great pride in qualifying and continuing education.

Recently, members of Division 9 spent a good part of their Saturday learning CPR and new AED skills. The ABC's of rescue taught us to check the airway, breathe for the victim and get that heart pumping.

Loraine Lopardo DSO-PA 1NR, who is also a Red Cross Instructor is shown demonstrating how to first check the victim. Auxiliary members routinely receive training that helps you to have a safer boating experience.
